The Artist at Work

These are fabulous firsts.
It takes preparation, special products, and patience to build the amusement and enchantment that are the major ingredients of Carla Foster’s painted porcelain designs.
Carla begins her creative process by selecting quality sinks, toilets, and tubs.
Her first step is to inspect the unpainted item. She looks for scratches, chips and imperfections that would affect the feel and look of the art piece. Next she wipes the toilet or sink with a soft cloth to remove dust and feel the contours. She then uses cotton saturated with a special chemical to prepare the surface to receive the paint. This is a significant step because the product is not kiln fired.
After preparing the surface, Carla sketches in a neutral color the broad strokes, shapes and outlines of the subject matter she is depicting on the toilet or sink.
Several layers of paint build the final colored design. Between layers, extended drying time allows the colors to set.
The entire process takes more than 3 weeks to complete . . . and the finished product is worth the wait and anticipation. There are no other painted toilets, sinks, or tub exteriors to rival these cheerful artistic expressions.
Whether you need an ambience of style and grace, a touch of the tropics, or a brilliant expression of joy and elegance, Carla can bring enthusiasm to your décor with functional art. Express your individual style and turn the predictable into a visual and functional feast of delight.
